Timeless and magnificent, a versatile shop design for Optics Unique

12 April 2023 2 min read

The right material in the right place? At Optiek Uniek in Tielt, they show how it's done. In their fresh, new store interior, a wood structure and HPL were combined to create practical ease of use and a warm shopping experience. In the store itself, Kortrijk-based interior designer Bossuyt Shop Interiors installed a neutral wooden design that allows the glasses to sparkle, while in the test room and workshop a highly hygienic and antibacterial environment was created using plain panels.

A smart approach that also runs through to the walls. Did you know that all Unilin Panels designs have a corresponding RAL and NCS colour so that walls or other elements of an interior can be painted to match? Optiek Uniek has a round wall in the same monochrome, dark green coat as the custom furniture in the test room and workshop.

Interior designer Jeroen Debruyne worked with a self-applied HPL for the rounded cabinet elements and the table top in the sales area. “Most panels are delivered fully finished, but for endgrain edges thicker than 20 millimetres or large surfaces, we do this ourselves,” explains Jeroen. "For example, we built the carcasses in plywood to which we then affixed a thin layer of matching HPL board. This, and the extensive colour options, mean that we can be very versatile in applications and ideas.

Looking for an extra tip from the professionals? Bossuyt Shop Interiors always uses HPL panels for the exterior of cabinets and other furniture, while the frames or interiors are made from melamine panels. “HPL is very strong and highly scratch-resistant,” says designer Jeroen. "With the design in different materials (melamine and HPL) with a corresponding edging tape, we can really go in any direction. The colour match makes the design options endless!"
